How are wooden covers made? Wooden cases How to make wooden phone cases

We will conduct several master classes on making silicone, felt, knitted, leather cases, as well as amazing bumpers from a herbarium and a children's sock.

Case-herbarium

To make such a smartphone case with your own hands, prepare:

First, think over the composition, applying flowers in various variations to the surface of the cover. As soon as “the one” is found, we get to work:

  1. Take a photo of the ideal layout to reference as you create.
  2. Try to glue large and light parts first, and smaller and darker ones on top - under the influence of the resin, the plants will turn pale and become more transparent. Finally, sprinkle in glitter. Do not overdo it with details - the layer with vegetation should not be thicker than 1.5 mm.
  3. Following the instructions, dilute the resin with water one to one.
  4. Carefully pour the solution into the center. Then spread it over the entire surface of the painting, removing air bubbles.
  5. Make sure that the resin solution does not overflow over the surface of the composition - in this case, quickly wipe it off with cotton swabs soaked in acetone.
  6. The floral one for the smartphone will be ready after two hours of drying.

Silicone Case

You can make protective cases for smartphones from silicone yourself using:

Before making a smartphone case with your own hands, be sure to wear rubber gloves.

  1. Mix 50 g of potato starch with approximately the same amount of sealant. Then knead this product to the consistency of plasticine, adding dye along the way so that the color is even.
  2. Roll out the mass with a rolling pin or bottle on a flat surface to the desired thickness.
  3. Cover all the holes of the phone with tape, then place it in the center of the resulting cake, pressing the device a little into it.
  4. Then, using a spatula, bend the edges, making sure that the “pancake” fits perfectly to the smartphone.
  5. Be prepared for the fact that the phone will lie “captivated” by this mass from 12 hours to a day - that’s how much the substance needs to harden.
  6. Having taken out the phone, first remove the excess on the front, then cut holes for the camera, charger, headphones - they should be imprinted.

Felt cover

You can make a felt smartphone case with your own hands using:

And if you have a sewing machine:

  1. Cut out two identical rectangles - the outer and inner sides. It is necessary to take into account the length, width and thickness of the device, as well as an allowance of 5 mm on each side for the seams.
  2. On the outer side we cut off one corner diagonally, so that in the future it will become a convenient pocket.
  3. Then place the parts one on top of the other (the outer pocket is on the outside), fold it in the shape of the phone and stitch, retreating 4 mm from the edge.
  4. The felt does not fray, so there is no need to process the edges. If desired, decorate the product with a unique applique or patch - a universal smartphone case has been created!

Smartphone case

For this product you will need:

  • leather or leatherette;
  • a thin piece of plastic;
  • universal glue;
  • two flat magnets;
  • awl, knife, scissors.

A leather case for a book-sized smartphone is made like this:

  1. Cut out 2 pieces of plastic to the exact shape of the phone, and make a hole for the camera on one of them.
  2. Glue a magnet to the “back” plastic in the right place.
  3. Glue both pieces of plastic to the skin, leaving a distance between them equal to the thickness of the gadget.
  4. Wrap a piece of leather so as to completely hide the plastic inside it, and glue it in the right places.
  5. From a piece of leather, wrap a second magnet in it, form a clasp, and carefully glue it to the front part.
  6. Don’t forget to make the necessary cuts in the leather for the camera and other necessary holes.
  7. Using double-sided tape, glue the device to the case.

Knitted cover

The most “cozy” smartphone case you can make with your own hands is from yarn, namely, by knitting it. You won't need a lot of materials:

Here you can use two methods:

  1. The simplest and fastest. Knit two identical fabrics using your favorite pattern and sew them together. Cast on loops across the width of the smartphone and then knit lengthwise. You can cast on loops along the length of the device and knit it narrower in width.
  2. Knit “in one piece” - the same way as socks are knitted. Cast on stitches equal to two phone widths and then divide onto four needles. Continue knitting according to the chosen pattern, using only knit stitches, until the length of the product is equal to the length of the smartphone.

You can crochet such a product using the first method.

Baby sock cover

Go shopping or order cute, original children's socks through the online market. You can easily make a case for your smartphone from them yourself. You will also need scissors, a needle and thread, various accessories for applique to suit your taste - beads, pendants, ribbons, rhinestones, etc.

  1. Cut off the areas of the heel, sole of the foot and toes so that the remaining part has a rectangular outline.
  2. Sew up the open hem.
  3. Fold the remaining uncut fabric that was supposed to cover the top of the foot up and sew it on the sides - this will be a pocket.
  4. Decorate your creation with the trinkets you have prepared - sew or carefully glue them to this unique sock case.

Hi all! Today I want to tell you how to make a phone case from wood. There are three ways: cut on a CNC machine, glue from parts cut on a laser machine, and make it yourself using carpentry tools. The latter method is more accessible, and will be discussed further.

To make it you will need a wooden block slightly larger than the size of your phone.

Saw off two thin plates from it

then cut the sides a little thicker than the phone

Place the phone on one board and glue the edges with a gap of about 1mm, remove the phone and glue the top cover.

After 24 hours, the glue will polymerize and you can begin processing.

I won’t describe all the intricacies of carpentry, since everyone has their own approach to the job and different tools.

I got three at once

If desired, you can glue fabric or leather inside, make a fastener and apply a design.

On the left is made of amaranth, covered with colorless oil.

Medium oak, aged 5 minutes in Rubio Monocoat black oil

On the right is oak, aged 15 minutes in Rubio Monocoat clear oil

For the one I liked better, I made a leather clasp with a sewn-in neodymium magnet,

and sunk a magnet into the body with an arc and glued it to Poxipol.

You can make it even simpler: Buy a plastic cover for your phone and glue it to it

wooden plate

Simple and cute. And most importantly, made with your own hands!

You can use different types of wood and types of oils.

If you have ideas for improvement, please send me an email. [email protected]

And also write the approximate cost for the cover and lining. Maybe I'll start mass production))

Thank you for attention!

My father recently purchased an iPhone 5s (now an outdated model), and I know for sure that he will never buy a case for it. Therefore, I figured out how to make a phone case with my own hands as a gift, so that his conscience would not allow him to refuse it.

Although I am making a wooden case for a 5s model phone, you can make a case for any iPhone by downloading the case parameters on the Internet (available with the parameters of the iPhone model range for those who develop applications and accessories for them). I didn't even have to pick up the phone itself to take measurements, so my gift was a real surprise. I only needed to adjust a few things myself when I first put the case on my smartphone, so I won't give any measurements - you can find them on the Internet.

Step 1: Tools and Materials

Tools:

  • 3D printer and laser cutter
  • measuring metal ruler
  • jigsaw
  • belt sander (optional, you can sand by hand)
  • drilling machine (if you can drill with pinpoint precision by hand, you can use a regular drill)
  • engraver with a set of attachments (diamond head, disk cutter, emery attachment, etc.)
  • various screwdrivers, hammers, sheets of sandpaper (from 120 to 400 grit)
  • sharp knife for removing excess glue

Materials

  • sheet of hard wood, the sheet area should be approximately 2-3 times larger than the surface area of the phone. I used a 3mm thick walnut sheet, but I think 2mm would work (but then you'd have to be very precise), as would 4mm (which would make the case bulky)
  • scraps of wood of greater thickness for the sides of the case, approximately equal to the thickness of the phone plus 1-2 mm
  • miniature screws and nuts, appearance to suit your taste
  • superglue, wood glue

Step 2: Making wood blanks

First, I made a cardboard phone template using the dimensions I found on the Internet. If you can make a template from a piece of wood a little thinner than the phone, that would be great. Observe the dimensions and check the angles so that you don’t have to redo everything later. Of course, if you're confident in your abilities, you can glue the parts right around the phone, but I wouldn't take that risk.

From a sheet of wood, cut two boards that are 1 cm larger than the size of the phone. For now, you don’t have to adjust them to size. Mark the board you like best as the bottom cover of the case.
Then cut the sides (0.75cm wide) from thicker wood, making sure they are thicker (taller) than your phone. The difference should be small so that after further grinding there will be a gap of approximately 1 mm. Carefully glue them on the inside of the lid around the perimeter.

Before gluing the sides, make sure that the phone fits in the case, especially in height. To do this, place the phone inside the workpiece and cover it with a second plank on top; it should lie flat on the sides.

Step 3: Tighten the nuts

Attach the front panel (the board that is not the “lid”) to the workpiece with tape. Using a pencil, draw a rectangle on the board and carefully cut it out. Be careful not to cut off too much - there should be room for four screws in the corners of the case. For the sides, leave a gap of 4-6 mm, for the top and bottom parts - a little less, since we will screw in the screws on the sides.

Without removing the tape, drill four holes in the top cover and sides, with a diameter slightly smaller than the threads of the screws. Don't drill through! It is best to do this on a drilling machine with an indication of drilling depth. When drilling holes, always drill shallow first, then test the screw, and then drill deeper if necessary.

Countersink the holes so that the screw heads are flush with the surface of the lid. Be careful not to accidentally drill through the hole!

Step 4: Form the border of the front panel and cut a hole for the camera

Based on the parameters found on the Internet, I drew on the top cover the boundaries of the hole that is needed for the microphone, the return button, the screen, and the front camera.

Drill a hole inside the hole outline. Remove the jigsaw blade from the mount, thread it through the drilled hole, place the blade back into the mount and be sure to tighten it. Cut a hole along the marked outline. In the same way, make a hole for the flash and camera on the back cover of the case. While cutting the hole in the back cover, I cut through the top of the case, then just glued it back (pictured). It is not necessary to glue this piece back, since there is a power button underneath it, and the hole makes it easier to access. I decided to put the piece of wood back in place and make another button.

Sand the edges of the cut holes; using different engraver attachments you can make the cut angle completely square or, conversely, round it.

In the last photo you can see that I rounded the corners of the case (with a belt sander). This should only be done when the top cover is screwed into place, only then will the rounding contours of the covers match. It is not necessary to round the corners, but this shape follows the shape of the phone inside and visually makes the case much less bulky.

Sand the entire surface of the case first with 200 grit sandpaper, then 400 grit until it is completely smooth. I didn't use any finishing compound because I didn't have any. Perhaps I would use oil or some non-toxic composition, since the case will be in constant contact with my hands and face.

Step 5: Making holes in the side walls and buttons

You can make buttons out of whatever you want.
Using dimensional data from the Internet, I drilled holes in the bottom, top and side walls of the case - for the speaker, volume buttons, power button and silent mode button, for the microphone, for USB connectors and headphones.

Before you start drilling, be sure to insert a piece of wood into the body (in the first photo) to prevent the wood from splitting.

Once you've drilled the holes, you can choose something creative for the buttons.
The three buttons are quite simple - I ground off the height from the head of the bolt so that there was practically no hole left for a screwdriver, then I cut the threaded part to a suitable height with a disk cutter (you can also use a hacksaw for metal). Glue a small nut onto the cap with superglue. I didn’t glue a nut onto the volume up button because I wanted it to be different from the other two. Before you start gluing, try the case on the phone to make sure the holes line up with the buttons. The edges of the holes may need to be adjusted a bit to ensure they don't overlap the surface of the buttons and cause constant pressure on them.

The silent mode button was a little more difficult to make - I needed to make a lever, so I made one from a piece of wood about the size of a match (pictured) with a small notch to grip the switch. I made another deeper notch and hole, and sanded the lever a little to adjust the size of the notch.

The lever needs support. For this I used a bent nail. It should go halfway through the thickness of the side wall. You need to somehow get smart and be able to drill holes, put a nail through them and put a lever on it along the way.

If this seems too tricky to you, you can simply cut a hole in the case so that you can easily press the button with your finger.

Step 6: Shutdown

Place the phone in the homemade case and tighten the screws.
If the phone dangles a little inside the case, place a folded piece of paper under the phone.
