How long does the iPhone 6 battery last? Operating time or how long does the iPhone charge. Disable unnecessary Spotlight elements

At the presentation of the iPhone 6S, Appel representatives, as usual, did not say a word about the battery capacity of this phone model. But any potential owner of a new Apple phone model is interested in the question of how long this device holds a charge.

However, at this event a video was shown showing the back of the battery. It subsequently turned out that the battery capacity of the new gadget model decreased slightly compared to the iPhone 6.

Why did the manufacturer degrade the characteristics of such an important element in a more recent version of the device? And how to properly charge a smartphone in order to increase the duration of the smartphone’s operation without recharging and the “life” of the battery - read in this article.

More recently mobile devices were equipped with nickel batteries, the power of which was quite sufficient. But with the advent of smartphones with new functions and capabilities, there is a need to use other power sources - increased power and durability.

We should pay tribute to nickel batteries, which have good characteristics in terms of operation, but they discharge very quickly. Devices operating on their basis require frequent recharging, which is very inconvenient for any user. In addition, such batteries carry a “memory effect” - a property that leads to a reduction in battery capacity during its use.

For the above reasons, batteries in mobile gadgets have been replaced by lithium-ion cells. They are polymer, lighter and more capacious.

The advantages of such batteries are as follows:

  • Longer service life compared to nickel batteries (average service life - up to 5 years).
  • Low self-discharge value.
  • They have no memory effect.
  • Light weight.
  • Increased energy density.
  • Easy and convenient maintenance.
  • Cheapness.

But in order for such batteries to serve the iPhone owner for the required period, you need to know some rules for proper handling of these elements and follow them. These are rules such as:

1 Once a month (at least) completely discharge the battery. This rule applies to absolutely all lithium-ion cells. 2 When buying a new mobile gadget, you need to discharge it 100% and then charge the battery at least 2 times, 4 hours each.

Why do you have to wait so long? For the reason that in the process of recharging lithium-ion batteries, a rapid process first occurs, during which the battery is restored by 80 percent. After this, a weak current begins to operate until it is fully charged. You cannot use your iPhone during this process (at least, it’s better not to do this, only if absolutely necessary), so the optimal time for charging is at night.

iPhone 6S battery capacity

If in the sixth iPhone the battery capacity was 1810 mAh, then in the 6S model it was already 1715 mAh, i.e. 95 units less (or 5%).

However, the official Appel resource claims that the performance indicators for both sixth-line gadgets are equal. These are characteristics such as:

  • Conversations on the 3G network – operating time up to 14 hours.
  • Surfing the Internet - iPhone operating period - up to 10 hours (via Mobile Internet 3-4 G).
  • Watching HD video – up to 11 hours.
  • Listening musical compositions– up to 50 hours.

It was assumed that maintaining the previous autonomy values was achieved with a smaller battery due to the use of more modern electronic elements, such as the A9 chip and the M9 motion coprocessor. How true are the manufacturer’s assurances about the characteristics of the iPhone 6S battery? Only real users of this Apple phone model can give the most objective assessments.

Why is the iPhone 6S battery capacity smaller?

The reason for such a sacrificial decision by the manufacturer was to use 3D Touch technology in the gadget of the new model, which recognizes pressure, as well as the Taptic Engine vibration motor. Of course, the dimensions and weight of the device also changed.

Everything seems to indicate that the device of the new model will need to be charged much more often than the previous one. But the information on the Appel resource on the Internet is completely opposite: the autonomy indicators in both the simple six and the 6S model are absolutely identical.

How did the developers manage to achieve this? Everything became possible thanks to the introduction into the device of an improved A9 processor with 64-bit architecture, as well as other upgraded components with increased efficiency, but at the same time less “gluttony”. Therefore, Appel was able to release new mobile gadgets with less battery capacity, but high level autonomy – no less than in previous versions of devices.

Note that this move by the developers did not excite everyone. Many users wanted to find in the new phone, among other things, an increased period of operation per charge cycle.

By the way, the battery of the iPhone 6S Plus was also reduced - by as much as 160 units. But at the same time, compared to the previous version of the S Plus model smartphone, in terms of autonomy, everything remains the same.

Rules for charging iPhone 6S

In order for your iPhone battery to serve you for as long as possible while maintaining its performance properties, you need to remember and follow the following rules:

1 Do not allow the device to fully discharge to 0%. It is better to recharge the battery more often to at least 50%. 2 If the battery is charged to 100%, you do not need to leave the gadget connected to the charger, but immediately disconnect it from the power source. 3 Once a month, the battery needs to be discharged to zero, followed by charging. 4 Care must be taken to ensure that the device body does not overheat.

To increase the operating time of your iPhone without additional charging, you can also optimize the settings, which consists of disabling options and applications that consume a large amount of energy. Typically these are applications such as geolocation services, software updates, music social networks and others. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi also consume a lot of energy, which also do not need to be turned on unless absolutely necessary. The same can be said about the backlight of the device.

How to extend the life of the iPhone 6S battery

If you actively use your iPhone every day, the key to high-quality and long-lasting battery life is careful use of the device, protecting it from temperature changes, moisture and dust. Also, a mandatory condition for maintaining the high performance properties of the battery will be a monthly complete discharge.

In addition, during the charging process, you should remove the gadget from the protective case, since being in such conditions, the device may overheat. So during this procedure you need to remove the device from the case.

iPhone and other mobile and computer devices from Apple are always produced with high quality and rich functionality, for which they are appreciated by millions of fans around the world. to the globe. However, even such high-quality and expensive equipment often breaks down due to careless handling by the user. The reason for iPhone breakdowns is often just this banal; factory defects are extremely rare. Therefore, the safety and long-term operation of the device is almost entirely in the hands of the owner of the device.

The latest iPhone 6 and its larger sibling, the iPhone 6 Plus, have seen a significant increase in sales of the most famous phone on the planet. Suffice it to recall the pre-orders of the new device and the record numbers surpassed.

To determine which Apple model to choose, it is important to take into account the volume and, accordingly, the time period of the battery in the iPhone 6. Many, of course, are interested in how long the Apple battery lasts? Let’s say right away that if you want to drain your gadget quickly, you won’t succeed!

It can be immediately noted that the battery in the newest iPhone 6 from the famous Apple corporation has become 30 percent more spacious than in the previous version 5 s. The replacement came in handy. The case, like the battery, is also necessary. At the same time, knowing how well the 5 s battery works, we can say for sure that the battery capacity in the new gadget will greatly please the user and, continuously, it can do a lot.

We can also conclude that the battery in the newest large Iphone 6 Plus is designed for extreme use of the device, which is why the capacity of the Iphone 6 Plus and the operating time before it runs out will greatly please anyone who uses it.

The battery, whose capacity is simply significant, was created by the developers specifically for the latest functions of the device. The presented Apple device is incredibly economical in battery consumption. Now you can use latest features, as well as applications all day long. A battery whose capacity is simply record-breaking cannot be discharged quickly. The only difference is how much time the owner will need to do certain manipulations.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus batteries differ in their own indicators regarding how long the device lasts. You can give figures for the operating time of these device models, which are stated until the device is discharged in standby mode.

On the iPhone 6 from the well-known company Apple, the battery capacity allows you to use audio files for 50 ampere hours. In this case, the Plus model will need to be replaced after 80 hours. Therefore, if you ask “how much”, the answer is quite simple - a lot.
If we talk about HD video files, they can be used for 11 hours. If we talk about Plus, then the device holds this indicator for 14 hours. As you can see, it’s quite difficult to quickly discharge the device.
The smartphone maintains an Internet connection via Wi-Fi for 11 ampere-hours. The Plus device will require a replacement after 12 hours. The battery, whose capacity is impressive, cannot be discharged quickly.
The phone also maintains a 3G Internet connection for quite a long time. The question is - how much? The smartphone will need to be replaced after 10 ampere hours. The user will need a replacement in the Plus smartphone after 12 hours.
Replacement as a result of continuous calls on 3G will be required by the user after 14 ampere hours. In the Plus model the lamer will need to be replaced after 24 hours. The device doesn't really discharge quickly.

The new device from the popular Apple corporation keeps the standby mode for ten days, and to be more precise, this figure is 250 hours.

If we talk about the Plus model, it maintains standby mode for sixteen days, and more precisely, 384 hours.
Thus, we can confidently say that the new iPhone from Apple does not discharge quickly, and the question of how much is no longer the question. A case is also needed so that the device can be used comfortably and safely.

New ones continue to excite the public and excite the consciousness of the mobile audience. The new products seem to be no different from their predecessor, but still gain a lot of interest from users. There are many topics that get the most attention after the official launch of a smartphone. One of these is the issue of the battery. How long does the battery of the iPhone Xs and Xs Max last in everyday life, how long does it take to charge new items - we will answer these questions further.

How long does the battery last?

The iPhone Xs Max has the highest battery capacity of any iPhone in Apple's line - 3,179 mAh, but this did not help it take the leading position. We are almost sure that the iPhone Xr will be the champion in the battery test among the new iPhones.

Battery capacity

  • iPhone X - 2716 mAh
  • iPhone Xs - 2658 mAh
  • iPhone Xs Max – 3179 mAh
  • iPhone Xr - 2942 mAh

In terms of capacity, the iPhone Xs Max should score the maximum operating time among iPhones, the iPhone Xs should get a figure approximately the same as the iPhone X. But here’s what was discovered during a real test, and not based on dry statistics from Apple.

The operating time of the iPhone Xs Max on a single battery charge was 9 hours and 34 minutes. The iPhone Xs lasted almost an hour less - 8 hours and 37 minutes, while the iPhone X showed a result of 8 hours 41 minutes. The highest figure remains for the iPhone 8 Plus - 10 hours 35 minutes, although its battery capacity is less than that of the iPhone Xs Max. Regarding the performance of other Android flagships, you can see a comparison of the results in the chart above.

How long does it take to charge?

This story is a little sadder than the previous one. Real-world tests showed that it takes 209 minutes to charge the iPhone Xs Max - that's almost three and a half hours. It will also take just over three hours to charge the iPhone Xs. Android smartphones can charge much faster thanks to the fast charging technology that comes with the device. But iPhone owners have to buy a device for fast charging separately.

There is no ideal scheme, but still adhere to generally accepted rules and manufacturer’s recommendations.

iPhone is an expensive device that, as a rule, we buy for at least 2 years. At the same time, we have hopes that after the planned service life it will still work properly and we will be able to sell it for “good” money.

One of the first questions buyers ask is about the state of the device’s power supply, for example: “How long does the battery last?” This means it makes sense to take care of the proper operation of the iPhone battery now.

As a power source in iPhones, iPads and other portable equipment, Apple (other manufacturers too) uses lithium-ion batteries, which:

  1. Charges faster.
  2. They work longer.
  3. They have a high specific capacity.
  4. Not subject to memory effect.

Under the memory effect battery refers to the reversible loss of capacity that occurs in some types of electric batteries when the recommended charging mode is violated, in particular, when recharging an incompletely discharged battery.

As an experienced iPhone and iPad owner (since 2008), I declare with full responsibility that Apple uses high-quality power supplies in its products.

1. Do not operate or charge the device in extreme temperatures (-40°C and +50°C).

Apple considers the ideal temperature range to be between 16 and 22°C and does not recommend "using your device in temperatures above 35°C as this may permanently reduce battery capacity." Overheating is critical!

From personal experience: I don’t look at the thermometer when I pick up my iPhone 5s, which I don’t advise you to do either. It is enough that:

  1. The device has not been exposed to direct sunlight.
  2. Do not leave it in the car in hot weather.
  3. Do not charge under your pillow.

3. To charge your iPhone, use an original charger and at least a certified USB cable.

For example, if you increase the charge voltage of a lithium-ion battery by just 4%, it will lose capacity twice as fast from cycle to cycle. To prevent this, special PMIC controllers are built into the original network adapter and directly into the iPhone (in batteries this is the Battery Management System), which ensure that the conditions for recharging the device do not go beyond the permissible limits: temperature, current and voltage.

In network adapters without a family or tribe, the so-called “no-names,” there may not be such a controller. Consequently, the voltage at the output of such an adapter may exceed permissible values and can burn out the power controller in the iPhone, and then damage the battery.

From personal experience: Charge your iPhone using original chargers certified cable and forget about battery problems.

4. Do not completely discharge your iPhone (to 0%).

The lifespan of a lithium-ion battery is usually expressed in terms of the number of full discharge cycles when you use up 100% of the battery's capacity. For high-quality power supplies this is 400-600 cycles. Apple claims iPhone battery life is 500 cycles, and iPad, Apple Watch and MacBook battery life is 1,000 cycles.

Whenever you completely drain your device, its lifespan shortens. This is due to the depth of the discharge.

It turns out that the more you discharge a lithium-ion battery, the faster it “dies”. To increase battery life, avoid deep discharging.

For clarity, I will give the dependence of the number of battery discharge cycles on the depth of discharge.

Not many people know that Apple batteries are charged in 2 stages:

  1. Up to 80% - in fast mode.
  2. From 80 to 100% - compensation charging.

This charging system allows, firstly, to quickly charge the device, and, secondly, to extend its service life.

Remember, completely discharging a lithium-ion battery will shorten its service life and reduce its capacity.

From personal experience: Connect iPhone and iPad to a power source at 10-20% charge and disconnect after 80%.

5. Don't charge your iPhone to 100%.

Fully charging a lithium-ion battery is not as bad as deep discharging, but it is still undesirable. Of course, the controller will not allow your device’s battery to overheat and overcharge, but, as practice shows, constantly plugging in a 100% charged iPhone reduces its battery life.

From personal experience: Leave your iPhone charging overnight. For some time, a 100% charged device will be connected to the network, but nothing will happen to it - not enough storage time to worry about it. With this charge, your iPhone will last for more than two years.

It is difficult to control the chemical processes occurring in the battery. And since the dependence of the output voltage on the battery capacity is nonlinear and the lithium-ion battery is subject to natural aging, accompanied by a decrease in capacity, and also because we charge devices haphazardly, over time, the iPhone’s power controller cannot accurately determine the battery charge level. Diagnosis: iPhone turns off even when charged more than 1%.

In order to calibrate the controller and bring the charge level indicator to life, the iPhone needs to be completely discharged. Apple advises doing this no more than once a month.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would like to note that each of us charges our devices in our own way. Even if there is an ideal scheme, it cannot satisfy everyone, since we live in different rhythms and under different conditions. Remember, your iPhone battery will age even if you do not use the device. Follow the rules described above (you don’t have to follow them strictly) and even if your iPhone battery fails, it can always be replaced.

On September 26, the first day of Russian sales, I bought a new iPhone 6 with 64 GB. Over the course of 2 weeks, many aspects of using the device became clear that I did not have time to notice and reflect in a large text review. In this note, I will share my experience of using a new smartphone and tell you what points you should pay special attention to.

Housing and ergonomics

After 2 weeks, the iPhone 6 has not lost any of its attractiveness - I’m not talking about chips and scratches (which, however, did not appear), but in perception appearance. The “six” looks good, especially the front panel, thanks to the beautiful rounding of the glass at the edges. All my friends who held a smartphone in their hands spoke well of the build quality and appearance.

However, during operation, an unpleasant moment arose due to the fact that the iPhone 6 lies unsteadily in the hand. Because of its phenomenal lightness and subtlety, the “six” makes you want to pick it up again and again. However, if you put the phone to your ear while talking or simply hold it with one hand at a free distance from your body, you will constantly feel discomfort - the roundness of the case makes itself felt and the phone tries to slip out.

Reachability mode is not a panacea, because in order to activate it, you will have to go down with your finger to the Home button, double-tap it and only then perform the necessary action. Perhaps it would be worth simply reducing the active screen area to the resolution of the iPhone 5/c/s?

Therefore, a week after the purchase, I bought a bumper, which I advise you to do too. Firstly, the phone will lie in your hands more confidently, secondly, you will solve the problem with the protruding camera, and thirdly, protect it from external influences. Which bumper or cover to buy is a personal matter, but I advise you to choose an accessory made of good materials: aluminum (like mine), leather, or at least high-quality plastic.

Screen

There are no problems with the size of the 4.7-inch screen. Basically, you can almost always use the iPhone 6 with one hand. However, there will be more situations when you need to intercept the device or use a second hand, so get ready.

In general, this characteristic “convenient to operate with one hand” requires a more detailed justification. Everyone's palms are different, some are comfortable working with the iPhone 6 Plus or Galaxy Note 4, while others still use the iPhone 4/S and earlier models and like the compact screen. Whether the device’s grips fit the definition of “convenient to operate with one hand” is also an open question.

The lock button, located on the right side, feels as if it was always there. It fits right under my thumb, so locking/unlocking occurs without problems. It won't take long for you to get used to this.

As for the picture quality, it is excellent on the iPhone 6. Be sure to write it down on a piece of paper: for more complete enjoyment of the design, buy only version of Space Gray. This way, the black screen and front panel will be perceived as seamless, without any noticeable frames. In silver and gold devices, such a border is clearly visible, and the visible light sensor on top does not add any advantages to these colors.

Speed and stability

The iPhone 6 works quickly and almost stable, but the problems encountered are exclusively related to the dampness of iOS 8 itself. It is still full of all sorts of unpleasant bugs, but Apple is already working on the iOS 8.1 update, which should solve most of the problems.

Touch ID doesn't always work as expected. It seems that Apple is actively talking about the fact that placing your finger and unlocking the screen is much faster and more convenient than entering a password or “slide-to-unlock”. But quite often the scanner incorrectly reads the information and does not allow access to the home screen. This also happens with the usual position of the finger when unlocking, but it happens especially often with a non-standard grip, when, for example, you try to unlock the screen upside down. Remembering the iPhone 5s, I’m sure that the problem here is more of a software nature, so again we’re waiting for iOS 8.1.

One of the funniest bugs of iOS 8 on iPhone 6 is Spotlight in decay mode and icons running over each other

All applications work quickly, but an absolute minority of them are now adapted to the new screen resolution. For clarity, let's look at my first desktop - out of 19 third-party applications, only 6 are adapted for iPhone 6: Pocket, Wunderlist, Flipboard, Telegram, Swarm, Tweetbot. Applications that I frequently use such as Mailbox, Reeder, the official VKontakte client, Instagram or CoinKeeper have not yet been adapted for the “six”.

But looking at the “Updates” tab in App Store, almost every 2 days I see an application updated and adapted to the new resolution. Therefore, all that remains is to wait, I think this is a matter of the next few months.

Camera

Everything is very good with this. I don’t feel any lack of megapixels, which could result in insufficient detail and accuracy of the picture. The 2.2 aperture allows you to take good pictures even in poor lighting conditions, in addition, the front camera also has the same aperture value, so selfies come out just right.

Slo-mo at 240 frames/second looks much cooler than what was in the iPhone 5s. A regular video is shot in good quality and with good sound.

Working hours

In the first days of use, the battery life of the iPhone 6 was depressing; I saw virtually no improvement compared to the iPhone 5, which barely lasted 5 hours of active use and asked to be charged twice a day.

I don’t know what happened then - either the optimized applications gave such an effect, or the battery itself “got hot,” but now the iPhone 6 works an honest full day. Usually, I take it off the charger at 9-9:30 in the morning and it is completely discharged with my usage model (mail, social networks, Internet, music, photos) only by 10 pm. It turned out that I didn’t have to carry it with me at all. Charger as the day progresses, which is good news.

More than 12 hours of operation on a single charge - excellent results

Of course, we all use our phones differently, so my positive experience cannot be generalized to absolutely everyone. Thus, the iPhone runs out of juice very quickly in games (Asphalt Overdrive is enough for 2-2.5 hours of play when fully charged; with Real Racing 3, Modern Combat 5 or Infinity Blade the situation will be at least no better). But as practice shows, working with mail, social networks, the Internet and music is the most common way people use the iPhone. Therefore, a pleasant surprise will most likely await you here.

Take only the 64 GB version

I recently went to M.Video and was surprised to find that an iPhone 5s 64 GB costs 35 thousand rubles, while an iPhone 6 64 GB costs only 2 thousand rubles more - 37 thousand. This year a unique situation arose due to the fact that Apple changed the lineup from 16-32-64 GB to 16-64-128 GB. That's why buying the 64GB version will be the best investment.

Agree, in modern realities, when we take tons of photos, install hundreds of applications and games, 16 GB is not enough. With 64 GB, I don’t worry about whether I should delete unnecessary photos or applications, because more than 40 GB (!) of memory remain free. Believe me, this “peace of mind” is worth the money.

What else?

If you have any questions about the iPhone 6, I'll be happy to answer them in the comments. It would be great to hear the experiences of other Six owners in order to compare their impressions with yours and get a more complete picture.
