Almost every year, the number of travelers who want to see the natural and historical values in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, is increasing. The history of the development of the air harbor
The air berth began its history in the distant 70s of the last century. At that time the government Soviet Union decided to organize competitive tours, the essence of which was to find the best project for the new air complex. Initially, the architects presented the project in the form of a three-dimensional slightly elongated structure. However, having started direct work, it was decided to use completely new project– round terminal.
Construction work was carried out in a short time. The aircraft complex of unusual design, which was given a consonant name with the famous Yerevan temple, began to serve the first passengers in 1980. The cargo terminal was built and put into operation after 8 years.
In 2001, by order of the Armenian government, it was decided to lease the airport to Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 for 30 years. In early 2014, construction began on a new terminal to serve international flights which began operations in 2017.
Air harbor today
The only civilian air berth in the Armenian Republic is the Zvartnots air complex. The old terminal, as we noted earlier, has round shape, outwardly resembling alien saucers. You can see the photo below.
The size of the base corresponds to the area of 2 football fields. In the center of the terminal there is a room with a dispatch service and a modern restaurant. The above rooms have panoramic windows overlooking the runway.
The old aviation complex was deservedly considered the real pride of the ancient republic. However, the current owners still had to decide to close it in 2011 and build a new terminal in close proximity to the old one.

Banants Stadium is the only open-air multi-purpose stadium in Yerevan. The stadium was built in 2006 with the support of UEFA to host football matches. The average capacity of the stadium is 5,000 spectators, and the attendance per game is 710 people. Also, football clubs "Banants" and "Banants-2" often train here. Near the stadium there are two mini-fields for junior and youth teams "Banants".
In 2008, local contractors installed artificial turf to allow for warm-ups and workouts throughout the year. In 2010, after minor damage, the stadium was restored and its design was almost completely changed. In May 2011, the stadium was opened for games. After the renovation, its football field is considered one of the best in Armenia.
Mika Stadium
Mika Stadium in Yerevan is one of the best multi-purpose stadiums in Armenia. Quite often it hosts football matches. It is also the home arena of the Ashtarak Mika team. The stadium is quite large and can accommodate 7,000 spectators. It was built in 2008 on the site of the previously destroyed Araks stadium. In 2009, the Ulisses football club rented the Mika stadium for home matches.
Since there is no canopy on the stands, spectators can be located as close to the field as possible. For the convenience of viewing games for spectators, a modern scoreboard has been installed. The area around the stadium is surrounded by several statues. There are also two practice fields nearby. Quite often, sports matches for the youth team of Armenia are held here.
Republican Stadium of Yerevan
Yerevan Republican Stadium is one of the most versatile and versatile stadiums in Armenia. Its construction began in 1937 and was completed by the end of 1938. Many details of the façades were added after World War II. Its original name was Dynamo, but after Armenia gained independence, the stadium was renamed Hanrapetakan. In 1995, the renovation of the stadium began, which was supposed to be completed soon, but since there were not enough funds, the repair was delayed until 1999.
In 1999, after Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan was assassinated, the stadium was renamed in honor of this politician. The UEFA Executive Committee took part in financing the repair, allocating three million dollars. In 2000, the stadium was restored. In 2008, improvements were made, namely, they changed the lawn and added a VIP box.
Hrazdan Stadium
Initially, immediately after construction, the stadium could accommodate 75,000 spectators, but after the reconstruction, the capacity was significantly reduced, and now the stadium can accommodate about 50,000 spectators. The dimensions of the stadium field are 105x68 meters. The Hrazdan Stadium hosts the most spectacular and largest sports events Armenia. In 1978, the USSR team won here against the Finnish team with a score of 10:2 and the Greek team with a score of 2:0.
This stadium also has a developed internal structure, which allows developing other sports besides football. The interior of the stadium is quite spacious and designed for the fact that it is also possible to organize basketball competitions and rhythmic gymnastics, karate, fencing and aerobics. The stadium also has two conference rooms, three restaurants and a general fitness room.
Hrazdan Stadium
Hrazdan Stadium is the only largest two-tiered stadium in Yerevan. It was built in May 1970 with the support of an oil tycoon in just 11 months. The opening of the sports stadium was held on May 19, 1971. The stadium got its name due to its location near the Hrazdan River. It was here that Ararat football fans witnessed the victory of their favorite football club and several more significant games.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, local football clubs and the Armenian national team played at the stadium. In 1990, this stadium hosted the final of the Football Cup. Over the years, the stadium has fallen into disrepair and in 2002 it was partially restored. Initially, the stadium had a capacity of 76,000 spectators, and after the renovation it began to accommodate only 60,000 spectators.

International airport "Zvartnots"(arm. Զվարթնոց Միջազգային Օդանավակայան ; IATA : EVN, ICAO : UDYZ) - international Airport Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. It is located in the west of the city on the territory of the Malatia-Sebastia region, not far from the town of Zvartnots, 12 km west of Yerevan. Zvartnots Airport is the main international transport hub of Armenia and the busiest airport in the country.

In 1970, an open competition for architectural designs was held. The first prize was awarded to designer S. Baghdasaryan and a group of architects, which included A. Tarkhanyan, S. Khachikyan, Zh. Shekhlyan, L. Cherkezyan. Later, the project was modified with the participation of architects A. Tigranyan and A. Meschyan. The 1980s saw a renovation of the airport, with more air terminals added to accommodate increased passenger traffic within the Soviet Union.
When Armenia declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, cargo traffic increased. And in 1998, a new cargo terminal was opened with a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo per year.
The airport is designed to serve large aircraft such as An-225, Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A380.
On January 30, 2013, at a competition held by the Arabian Reach organization in Dubai, UAE, Zvartnots Airport was awarded the title of "The Best Airport in the CIS and the Baltic States".
Extension
Construction of a new terminal began in 2004 at a cost of $100 million. The terminal area is 19,200 m², the capacity is 2 million passengers per year. The terminal building was built as part of an airport management agreement.
On September 14, 2006, the new arrivals hall was opened, and the new international arrivals hall was opened on June 1, 2007.
An additional $100 million investment was distributed up to 2010. The development of the airport over the next 30 years will cost 164 million euros, of which more than 70 million euros have already been spent on the first phase - expansion by 19,200 m 2 and renovation of about 45,000 m 2 .
At the end of the first phase, the airport will boast a runway of 54,000 m 2 and a building area of 45,000 m 2 , of which 25,000 m 2 is occupied by the new terminal. A new parking area with a capacity of 1,000 cars was built. Many international airlines have launched flights from Zvartnots airport, connecting Yerevan with the whole world.
The arrivals hall has been doubled in size to accommodate more than 1,000 passengers per hour. The movement of passengers has been greatly simplified due to the expansion of the customs zone. Waiting areas have been modernized, the airport provides free Wi-Fi in the territory of the new terminal, Duty free shops and restaurants are open.
Landing strip 09/27 is equipped with a category II course-glide path system, which allows aircraft to land at a low practical ceiling (30 meters) and poor visibility (350 meters).

In the spring of 2008, the construction of a new passenger terminal began. The project was completed in September 2011. The new terminal with an area of 52,000 m 2 has doubled the number of checkpoints. A new underground parking area of 2000 m 2 was built, capable of accommodating more than 800 cars. With the completion of the construction of the terminal, Zvartnots Airport has become the only airport in the Caucasus region that meets the requirements of category B. At the moment, the airport can serve up to 3.5 million passengers a year. The project cost $160 million to complete, part of which is a loan from the Asian Development Bank. The new terminal began operating on September 16, 2011.
The government continues to finance the repair and restoration work at the airport.
Safety system
To meet international air standards, the airport management has improved the security system. 150 surveillance cameras were installed, indoors and around the airport building. The building is guarded by the Armed Forces of Armenia.
During the upgrade, new alert displays, an automated baggage check-in system and a biometric passenger flow control program were installed. Access to the lounge is protected by a three-stage security system: pre-control (boarding ticket), passport control and x-ray control. Until the summer of 2018, the fingerprints of all passengers were also monitored.
Terminals
"Zvartnots" airport consists of three terminals. Terminal 1 was built in 1971 and closed in 2011. Terminal 2 consists of two buildings - the arrivals hall, which has been operating since 2006, and the departure hall, which has been open since 2011. Terminal 3 is for heads of state and official state delegations.
Terminal 1 (now closed) - has a round shape. Under the bridge, which served as the boarding gate, there was an underground parking with a capacity of 250 cars. The arrivals hall was on the ground floor and was dark and narrow. The arrivals hall was moved to the second terminal building in 2006. When Terminal 2's departure hall was opened, its boarding gates were bridged to Terminal 1.
In total, the terminal had 9 boarding gates, 3 of which were equipped with boarding bridges (15 gates were added from 2006 to 2011, they are equipped with eight boarding gates), 21 check-in counters and 2 baggage belts. In 2011, the terminal was closed, deconstruction work has already begun on the circular part of the terminal, the tower will be renovated and remain in place.
Terminal 2 opened in three stages: in 2006, 2007 and 2011. The terminal can serve up to 3.5 million people per year. The registration hall is located on the second floor under a high glass ceiling and includes 42 check-in counters equipped with modern equipment. The boarding hall consists of 5 gates, duty-free shops, a cafe, a seating area opposite an 8-meter (26-foot) glass facade with panoramic views of the runway and Mount Ararat, and a business lounge on the 4th floor. The passport control area consists of 16 booths and an X-ray scanner. The arrivals hall begins with a glass tunnel between the first and second floors, which leads to escalators and 15 immigration booths through duty-free shops, then to 4 baggage belts. The exit from the airport is connected to the departure hall, where cafes, banks and a tourist information desk are located. At the exit from the terminal there is a taxi rank and a three-story parking lot, from which the road to the city begins.

Ground transport
The official service of the airport "Zvartnots" is the Airport Taxi service, which serves only the direction from the airport to any point in the city and back. The service is not engaged in transportation within the city.
Since 2017, the bus route has been operating: "Zvartnots" airport - the center of Yerevan. The bus leaves every half an hour from 7 am to 10 pm and every hour from 22:30 to 7 am. The route is served by Elitebus buses, the fare is AMD 300 one way. The bus makes stops in the central part of Yerevan: at the Molodezhnaya (Yeritasardakan) metro station, at the intersection of Abovyan and Sayat-Nova streets, on Amiran street near the Republic Square and on Mesrop Mashtots Avenue.

Transfer to Yerevan
