In Sumatra, the Moluccas, and the Malay Peninsula, red resin is collected from fruits. Here this resin has proper name- jerang, - which has nothing to do with dragons and denotes this very red resin. Thus, the resin of Croton Lechler (“dragon’s blood” according to the Peruvian-Ecuadorian version) is often used as a liquid bandage, it strengthens the gums, and is also taken orally to treat ulcers and diarrhea. The juice (“dragon’s blood” in Texas) also works as a liquid bandage, but it is not taken orally.
